Curves smiles and youth

(Taken from the fabulous film 13 going on 30)

Surely I can't be the only one who has noticed that femininity has seemingly been expunged from the 21st century? More and more images of women posing looking half-starved pouting for the camera. Moreover this isn't just 'models' this is the women we know, the ones we went to school with, grew up with. Women who used to be so full of life now aim to be frail and discontent. What ever happened to smiling? Yes remember smiling? Granted the problem isn't women alone. There seem to be more and more images of men pulling silly cliché poses. My favourite being the bending over pointing at someone pose, although the double thumbs up pose seems to be a close runner-up.

More significantly what happened to 'loving the skin you're in'? Granted as well as many, I enjoy styling my hair and wearing make up, but not to the extent of having to take out a loan to pay for my appearance. What happened to fresh faced youth? Looking your age, acting your age, enjoying your age? If I hear another person say 'oh it's nearly my birthday I’m getting so old' - at the age of 18, 20, 25 e.t.c. I may just give up. Surely it's better to be celebrating your 21st birthday than not? Tell me I’m not the only one who thinks/has noticed this?

I want to see boys and girls as friends and embracing their lives. Smiling, eating enjoying themselves! Granted I won't deny that I spent a certain amount of my teenage years moping around complaining with the best of them. But looking back all I can do is regretted what I didn't do. Why aren't we enjoying ourselves? Men lifting weights to get the 'ideal' body and girls literally counting the calories - before actually eating. I’ve sat and listened to close friends discuss their lunch like it’s a chore. We should all 'watch our weight' but not to the extent of witnessing it slip away? Or visa versa. I want to see curves, smiles and youth restored. I know I’m not the only one who sees life slipping away from my generation. So let’s embrace life!
