Spring

Spring

So I guess I’ve been away for a while. My only excuse is that I haven’t been myself, better to be honest right? But how are you? That’s what I want to know. Talk to me. In the meantime here’s my piece for spring.

The stupidity of the English

Ok so i'm a proud tea drinking, umbrella carrying English citizen. But over the years something has been drawn to my attention - the stupidity of the English. There have been many jokes against English culture - getting over excited when it’s hot and being equally unprepared when it snows, being able to take sunglasses and an umbrella out at the same time and of course politeness. No matter what we Brits will merrily que to whatever end.

At this point i direct you to a link from National Lampoons European Vacation

So now perhaps you are beginning to understand my point?

Well as i was saying i have started to pick up on these traits. Recently i've found myself using my local busses regularly and in doing so i've noticed a couple of things. Firstly Brits don't like to 'hold on' when standing on the bus, the amount of times i've watched groups of people swaying about as the bus turns down the streets. In fact once when i was getting up to leave a girl hopped out in front of me stood up (without holding on to anything) and the bus suddenly stopped, at which point she flew backwards stood on me (whilst wearing heels i feel i should add) and i caught her before she fell. Most would perhaps turn round and thank the person who just saved them from embarrassment, or maybe even apologise for standing on them. But no this girl shook herself off and just casually walked off ahead of me. So instead of the Brits avoiding this unnecessary awkwardness they continue to bob along on the bus. The only thing i can conclude about this is that it's not 'cool' to hold on to prevent yourself from falling over.

So there's one example.

Another thing i've witnessed, nobody waits at pedestrian crossings anymore, or looks before they cross the road. The amount of times i've watched people (of all ages) run out into the road because the person in front of them did - therefore assuming that if the person ahead thinks that it is ok it must be! I've already witnessed a girl who was knocked down in one of these occasions however daily i have to watch people hustle out into a busy road all for the sake of impatience. So of course this leaves me standing alone, waiting, watching the elderly and the handicapped dare to go where i daren't.

I could continue but i think you see my point. The English would rather risk their lives or embarrass themselves, for the sake of being quick or 'cool'.

Snow what!?

I realise it's been a while since we last spoke and for that i am truly sorry, I can only provide the usual apologetic response and explain that i've been busy etc So how have you been? As sick of the snow as i am? Wasn't January dismal, snow, darkness, lack of inspiration (once you've worn the same pair of jeans 3 days in a row). Oh good i thought i was the only one tired of wearing the ol' boots and jeans combo! Want to hear my solution? Woolyshorts with thick tights! I picked up a fabulous light beige pair from my local vintage store, high waisted wonderfulness! Look at my 'Snow what!?' collection for some inspiration!

Snow what!?

Snow what!?
